PETA is calling out Live Earth’s co-founder and former Vice President Al Gore on ‘hypocrisy and sheer laziness’ for not limiting Live Earth festival to vegan-only food.
In a series of e-mails that were obtained by BuzzFeed, the animal
advocacy organization pestered the concert organizers, demanding if they
plan to serve vegan only food at the events.
Earlier this year, Gore, along with Pharrell Williams and Kevin Wall announced that they are bringing a second “Live Earth” concert series to a global audience this summer. Last month, PETA called on the trio, asking
them to adhere to their own previous statement: “that dropping meat and
dairy products in favor of vegan foods is the best way to reduce our
carbon footprint.”
However, from the looks of the things, they continue to remain
non-committal towards rolling out an all-vegan menu for this summer’s
festivities.
“They either care about stopping climate change or they’re more
interested in the appearance of caring,”
Lisa Lange, senior vice
president of PETA, explained in an email to BuzzFeed. “While they
decide, the earth is dying so PETA is hoping they immediately announce
that they’re putting their mock meat where their mouths are, and making
the Live Earth events vegan.”
In response, a representative for Live Earth explained they do not
have complete control over the food served at the venues where their
events will be taking place due to existing agreements between the
venues and their vendors.
We don’t like to call people names, but we’re sure Gore and the gang
are aware that livestock production is a top contributor to global
warming. So, hopefully, they quickly will heed PETA’s advice and serve
up only vegan treats this summer.
It’s only right.
